Thresher sharks are solitary predators named for their thresher-like tail which can be as long as the total body length and which they use as a weapon to stun their preys and sometimes to kill sea birds. Thresher sharks are also known to jump out of the water like dolphins, a behavior called breaching.

Notorious for being prone to parasites, Scientists think that Threshers breach to dislodge them from their gills. Though they spend copious amounts of time at Cleaner and Moon Wrasse cleaning stations, the fish concentrate on the pelvic region, and hardly touching the gills. So “once more unto the breach dear threshers, once more” it is.
